Rights on Site logo [rightsonsite square logo 2.jpg]

The AWU and other unions are campaigning to end discrimination against construction workers under the extreme powers of the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) and its replacement Inspectorate.

Construction workers can be forced to attend secret interrogations under threat of imprisonment and major fines. They do not have the democratic right to remain silent and their choice of legal representative can be denied.

If you suspect the ABCC is present at your workplace:

  • tell your union immediately;
  • don't be provoked - advise the ABCC that you will cooperate after recieving legal advice
  •  remember if the ABCC requires you produce any document you should ask for 14 days written advice
  • if you are served with a notice, ask your union for legal advice;
  • being summonsed by the ABCC is serious - you can be jailed or fined for failing to co-operate.

Help stop the abuse of construction workers' rights now.
