AWU Vic Branch Response To Royal Commission Findings

Wednesday 30th December 2015

Australian Workers’ Union Victorian Secretary Ben Davis said the findings of Trade Union Royal Commissioner Dyson Heydon dealt with the past, and did not in any way reflect the current activities of the union or the branch

“The AWU Victorian Branch takes union governance seriously, as it does its commitment to the members for whom it exists,” Mr Davis said.

“This report is a political document which, at first reading, reaches conclusions which are as unreasonable as they are predictable from this Royal Commission.

“There have been no issues raised in relation to the current conduct of the AWU Victorian Branch, which is my greatest concern and certainly that of our members.

“We have done as any organisation should do on a regular basis, and scrutinised every aspect of our operation, taking into account recent allegations. Any reform which may have been necessary has already taken place.”

Any action taken against the AWU Victorian Branch would be vigorously defended, he said.
