Industrial Action Called Off
Industrial action by gas workers employed by Esso will not go ahead on Friday (9 December), as the result of a Fair Work Commission (FWC) decision this afternoon.
Australian Workers’ Union Victorian Secretary Ben Davis said an application by the Victorian Government for industrial action to be stopped was successful, and the parties would now head into 21 days of FWC ordered conciliation.
“If agreements have not been reached at the end of that period of conciliation, the Enterprise Agreements will then go to arbitration,” Mr Davis said.
“The AWU would always prefer a negotiated outcome, but we are prepared for arbitration if necessary, and are confident of a fair result.”
Enterprise Agreements for offshore workers, and those employed onshore at Longford and Long Island Point have been the subject of more than two years of negotiations.
