Woolharvesting Safety Resource Centre
In May 2008 the Shearing Contractors Association of Australia hosted the inaugural Trans-Tasman Shearing Contractors Conference, Shearharvest 2008. Over 150 delegates from the Shearing Contractors Association of Australia, the New Zealand Shearing Contractors Association, the Western Australian Shearing Contractors Association and many other areas of the wool harvesting industry met for the first time to exchange ideas and learn from each other.
A highlight of the conference was the launch of the Shearing Safety Website www.shearingsafety.com.au. The Shearing Safety Website is a sheep shearing occupational health & safety and workers compensation library and information point for the sheep shearing industry.
The purpose of the website is to provide an access and listing point of useful shearing occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation information for people in shearing industry.
The aim is to help this industry help itself with occupational health and safety management and improvement.
There are many useful resources and contacts on the website with more material being added regularly, so please take a look at the website, www.shearingsafety.com.au. The shearing safety website is made possible by funding provided through WorkCover NSW “WorkCover Assist” Program and the work of the Woolharvesting Safety Resource Centre run by the ANZ Woolharvesting Safety Group.
The ANZ Woolharvesting Safety Group is a voluntary group that has been formed to co-operatively improve occupational health safety in the New Zealand and Australian shearing industries. Representatives from all aspects of the shearing industry are represented in the ANZ Woolharvesting Safety Group, with members from Unions, Producers, OHS regulators, Workers’ Compensation Authorities and Shearing Contractors’ Associations.
